How
does this new lock work ???
The
new Q-LOK® small outboard motor lock is an assembly of parts specifically
designed to lock the motor's mounting screws firmly in place, preventing the
motor from being stolen. The assembly adjusts to the width between the mounting
screws, and is locked in place with a specially keyed screw. The lock is also
designed to incorporate a pad or combination lock if desired.
How
does Q-LOK protect my outboard motor?
Our
device (Model No. QL-210) covers the transom nut & bolt so they cannot be
simply unscrewed and removed. Specifically, a solid stainless steel barrel slips
over the mounting bolt, a specially keyed nut locks in the device, and a press-fit
cover seals the entire unit.
(Optional: for added protection, we offer a bolt head cover (QL-110) not shown)
How
does Q-LOK differ from other devices on the market?
Other
devices on the market can be crushed or jimmied, then simply twisted off, rendering
them ineffective. Q-LOK's unique design......

Deters Tampering by Encasing the Transom Nut and Bolt

Will
Q-LOK fit on my boat and motor?
Since
boat transoms vary in width depending on the make, and transom bolt types vary
between different outboard motor manufacturers, we supply a high-quality ½
- 20 fine thread bolt 5 inches long. This bolt can be easily modified allowing
Q-LOK to be installed on any boat & any motor in just 15 minutes.
Will
Q-LOK® fit on my small outboard motor?
The
size of a motor's mounting bracket will differ between motor manufacturers;
it may also differ between motor sizes. We have developed 3 models that will
fit nearly all small outboards from 2hp to 30hp. Each is adjustable to fit a
specific range of distance between the mounting screws.
Is
it really that easy to steal an outboard motor off the back of a boat?
Yes...
Only 4 transom bolts secure the motor to the boat. By simply unscrewing the
(unprotected) nut, removing the bolts, and clipping the cables, the motor can
be quickly taken away.
In fact, we recently viewed
a police surveillance tape showing a theft in progress. Two thieves removed
the motor from a boat and placed it in a truck....in
just a few MINUTES !!
